Apple just held its latest Apple Event on October 18, 2021, and they made quite a few remarkable achievements in the tech world. This event mainly focused on music and their new Mac. They bring up their changes with apple music and Siri, the new AirPods, and finally their new M1 chips and the MacBook pro.

Apple Music and Siri

Apple this fall has decided to give us better music delivery using Siri and our voices. Before you could ask Siri to play a certain song or an album but Apple has also given Siri a few more voice commands. Apple has created hundreds of playlists for certain moods that if you tell Siri what mood you are in, it will play that playlist. Some of the moods Apple has made a playlist for are island vibes, cooking, creative focus, day in Tokyo, and hundreds of more that you can ask Siri to play with apple music. Apple has also created a new subscription plan for Apple Music that will introduce this new feature for Siri and let you have access to these new playlists. The subscription is called the Voice Plan and will be available for $5 a month. The voice plan is the cheapest version of Apple music as the Individual Plan comes in at $9.99 a month.

Homepod Mini

The Homepod Mini was first introduced last year during one of Apple’s events, Apple has decided to give the homepod Mini more color giving us options of yellow, blue, orange as well as their space grey and white versions. Apple did not change much else besides the color. The Homepod Mini is a new way to Smart Home Control with it’s vibrant colors.

Airpods

Apple started off by introducing their new spatial audio with the Airpods. Before spatial audio was only an option with the Airpods Pro and the Airpods Max. The third generation of the AirPods shows resemblance to the AirPods Pros without the silicone earpiece. Apple put in a new driver to get a deeper bass and they made the AirPods waterproof. The new AirPods also have adaptive EQ for music enthusiasts. Apple also included MagSafe charging, longer battery life, and force sensor controls to deliver a new experience with the third generation AirPods. The new AirPods will cost $25 more than the last generation AirPods at a total of $179 making it the perfect balance between Airpods and the Airpods Pro.

M1 Pro and M1 Max

Apple introduced their own chip the M1 November of 2020 and this chip was in the 24 inch iMac, MacBook Air, Mac mini, the MacBook Pro models. This year Apple is releasing two new forms of the M1, the M1 pro and the M1 Max. Apple decided with these new chips to bring the CPU and the GPU together in one chip to improve data transfer speeds. This lets the M1 Pro deliver up to 200 gigabytes per second of memory bandwidth. The M1 Pro has 10 CPU cores with 8 of the cores being high-performance cores and the final two cores are high-efficiency cores making this chip have 70% faster CPU performance than the original M1. The graphics have 16 cores making the chip 2 times faster than the M1. The new M1 Pro has more engines including a media engine, display engine, neural engine, and a thunderbolt engine so that you can get more out of thunderbolt ports. Apple pushed their new silicone to the test with their new M1 Max. The M1 Max starts with a higher-bandwidth fabric making it twice as fast as the Pro with a memory bandwidth of 400 gigabytes per second. The M1 Max is able to support up to 64 gigabytes of unified memory while the Pro can only support 32 gigabytes. The M1 Max has the same CPU cores as the Pro but doubles the Pro’s GPU with 32 cores. The Max has up to four times the GPU performance of the M1. In this most recent event, Apple showed us how far they can push their Apple Silicon with their M1 chips to bring us one of the most powerful and efficient chips in a laptop. On top of these new chips, Apple redesigned the macOS to bring out the full potential of these chips.

MacBook Pro

Apple completely redesigned the Macbook Pro this year bringing in their new M1 Pro and Max chips and a redesign of the IO. The Macbook Pro will come in its normal 16-inch model and its new compact 14-inch model. First Apple changed the MacBook Pro’s keyboard, getting rid of the touch bar at the top and replacing it with a set of full-sized function keys. Apple never seems to fail to deliver a great experience with their mechanical keyboards and their trackpads. Apple has finally added some additional ports to the MacBook Pro. Apple has added an HDMI port to connect to displays and TVs, a full SD card slot, the headphone jack now has support for high-impedance headphones, there are a total of 3 thunderbolt 4 ports on the MacBook, and finally, Apple has brought back their MagSafe back on the Pro lineup. Even though MagSafe is back on the Pro you are still able to change through the thunderbolt ports. One of Apple’s biggest redesigns has been with the display, with smaller bezels on the side, the Macbook Pro has an even larger display than its predecessors. They have also expanded the display around the camera giving it the same look as Apple’s newer phones. To make the most out of the new changes, Apple is moving the menu bar out of the way in this new space between the webcam. With these new displays, Apple also decided to bring ProMotion to the Macbook Pro giving it a refresh rate of 120Hz. The display now supports 1 billion colors and Apple put in its new Liquid Retina XDR display and features the mini-LED technology used in the iPad Pro. With this new technology in the display, it now has a sustained full-screen brightness of 1000 nits and a peak brightness of 1600 nits, and finally a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Apple has also replaced the camera with a 1080p FaceTime HD camera and their mics which have up to 60% lower noise floor. The 16-inch and 14-inch MacBook has a 6 speaker system with two tweeters and four force-canceling woofers. With this new speaker system, the MacBook Pro can deliver 80% more bass and gives you a larger range of notes. With the new M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, these MacBooks have 2 times faster CPU performance than the previous generation Core i9 Macbook Pro. In graphic performance, the M1 Pro is 2.5 times faster than the previous Macbook Pro and the Max is 4 times faster. In Machine learning, you will get up to 5 times faster than the predecessor with both chips. To help bring these chips to their peak potential, the MacBook Pro has up to 64 gigabytes of unified memory. The SSDs in the Macbook Pro are also faster giving an insanely fast 7.4 gigabytes per second of reading speeds, this is 2 times faster than the prior generation SSDs. The battery was also improved giving the 14-inch 17-hour battery life and the 16-inch 21 hours of battery life. Apple also introduced the Mac fast charge — this means that you can charge up to 50% in just half an hour. Apple has raised the bar for what consumers expect in a notebook delivering more power than ever before.

Apple has blown us away this year with its advancements in technology, bringing us a new design for music and our moods. More vibrant color in the Homepod Mini and changing the fan-favorite Airpods into a new experience. The highlight of the show has to go to Apple’s new M1 Pro and M1 Max chips giving us a performance we have never seen before in a MacBook Pro. Apple’s new redesign of the MacBook Pro has also changed the game for consumers giving us more accessibility with the new HDMI and full SD port. Apple has shown us why they are one of the best tech companies out there today and that nothing can stop them from releasing some of the best technology to the market.
