Omicron Taking The World By Storm

Omicron Taking The World By Storm

As everyone knows, the new omicron variant of covid has taken a surge in the states, which is starting to become the most dominant variant of covid. The omicron variant is doubling every two weeks, predicting it will infect 70 percent of people by the end of February. While the new covid variant has the most infections, it doesn’t mean that it isn’t lethal to people. The new variant is infecting a lot more people, which means more people in hospital beds and more deaths. Scientists are trying to figure out if the new variant is less lethal than others; it is just way too soon to make a firm judgment on it. Scientist Chandran states, “I don’t really think that the virus is going to be less virulent based on data alone, […] we just have to wait and see what happens to people.” The virus also can bypass some antibodies; the two shots of the vaccine have dropped from 70 percent efficiency to 33 percent, and the booster shot has dropped from 93 percent efficiency to 70 percent. “It’s heartening to see these results,” Doctor Gray states. With the new vaccines being opened up to younger people, we can get new results on vaccinated-unvaccinated people to see what is the better protection against the virus and see how it reacts to the antibodies. The creation of some new antibodies has only killed two of the omicron variants. We are now super deep in this new omicron variant. We will see how it will impact our day-to-day lives and our health care systems.
